The Ex- Files

An AudioPortraitExploration on Relationships

In the Fall of 2017, while recovering from an abusive relationship, I felt powerless to separate my ex-partner's idea of who I was from my own and move forward with my life. I decided to make a study of codependency and to create a photo series of old partners, flings, ambiguous friendships, and other individuals who had been significant in my life.

I wanted to try and understand my history through the relationships I had had. I wanted to know, what my “exes” remembered, I wanted to better understand the way I have been influenced and had influenced the people I had loved. If need be, I wanted to apologize and be held accountable. Also, I wanted to talk about the nature of codependency, relationships, and love.

For 'The Ex-Files' I traveled to 4 different states and interviewed and photographed 9 “exes” from various stages in my life. The final project is a 20-minute video of interviews and still photography that remains my favorite project.

I have A HUGE amount of respect and gratitude towards the people who agreed to be part of this project.
